We have been busy around here as always. Today I spent the day pruning the fruit trees. I am almost done. I am up to 39 different fruit trees and 7 nut trees. It definitely keeps me busy. I was hoping to have them all pruned and sprayed before the upcoming storm, I do not think I will make it.
I have been spending my indoor time teaching in the morning and working on my parents bedroom in the afternoons. I finished the wall and it is now painted, but their was no way I could get and exact match for the paint so now I need to paint the rest of the bedroom to match the new wall. Painting is not as fun as I remember it being ;-)
We are getting ready for the holidays. I love having older kids and younger kids...okay I just really love my kids. Michael was gone the day after Thanksgiving, so I told the kids that Christmas was coming a lot sooner then I expected and if they wanted anything for Christmas they better get the house ready so I would feel festive. It did not take them more then a couple of hours after I set up the tree. They did as good of a job as I could have done.
I am always filling my children's heads with Shirleyisms. Things that I think are just normal until someone hears me say it and thinks I am the oddest mom. We were driving around after decorating and one of the kids asked why we don't decorated the outside of the house. They really wanted to decorated the outside of the house. I just frankly explained that decorations cost money and if I buy decorations for the outside of the house, that would be less presents I would be able to buy them for Christmas...Amazingly the children no longer mind that the outside of our house is not decorated.
I learned something new living in a house of scouts. Over dinner one night ,after the boys went and harvested branches for wreaths, the conversation turned to their poison oak that was in full eruption...Did you know that one with the most rash is the manliest. (If that is even a word!) Oh the great wisdom to be learned in our house
Andrew turned 12 in November...pictures are further down. For him it meant he is old enough to be a Deacon at church. It also meant that we get a visit from Grandma and Grandpa Law. (BTW Robynn would like to officially send her letter of protest that they do not visit all the grandchildren when they turn 12, just the boys)! We had a great visit with them, but grandma always ruins my children while she was here. This visit she taught Andrew a new acronym PPO. It looks innocent until you know what is stand for Persistence Pays OFF! Andrew is the MOST persistent child on the planet...It makes me tired just to type about it. Now when he wants something and he does not have my full attention on the matter. He puts on the cheesy grin and says, "PPO" Pretty much once I hear those letters, I know that I either just have to give in at that very moment because he is NOT giving up...or put my foot down stick my fingers in my ears and sing the "I'm not listening" song until he figures out I really am not listening. Okay just kidding about the singing thing, but I do have to space off to another planet while he reads me his rights and lists all the reasons why he needs it, or how badly he wants is, or how unfair and unjust I am...They I get to drop my famous last word..Andrew I already told you I am the meanest mom on the planet and I can not give my title up over this. Then he knows it is over.
This next one I can't blame anyone but myself for...While they were here the kids were bugging me about when we were going to go to Utah again...I made the off hand remark oh when gas gets to $1.50. All of the sudden gas prices are the most watched thing in Live Oak. Granted it was almost $2 when I said this. Yesterday is was $1.59...I had to sheepishly ask Michael if he would be okay spending Christmas in Utah...My kids are not going to let me get away with this one. They have told me the day they see $1.50 they are coming home and packing and we are leaving the next day! I really never thought I would pray that gas priced would not drop any further anytime soon.
UMMM this might be a long blog...I have not even started uploading all the pictures. I think I will make this a two parter
