March 9, 2009

Here is a picture that we had taken at our ward Christmas Party.

This is the last Cauliflower from our winter garden. It was Yummy. We have been pleasantly surprised by how well the raised square foot gardens do.

This last month we put in the last of the boxes that I built. The boys placed the gravel yesterday. It is starting, to begin, to be done. Today Andrew, Robynn and I made some frames so we can cover the plants with fabric. Hopefully I can plant the plants outside earlier and have them grow faster. Why I don't know ....I will be having squash coming out of my ears soon enough!

Here is a picture in progress. If you look real close the wine barrels are full of blue berry plants.

My Uncle Lynn has asked for a photo tour of our place. I can't do it all in one sitting, but I will try to have a photo journey of the place buy the end of the summer. So this picture is taken out side of my parent's place. This is my dads version of a front yard. The tree to the right of the picture is a almond tree. One the other side of the garbage can is the gravel road that runs in front of our property. Across the gravel road is 30 feet of city property that they are thinking of turning into a bike trail. And of course there is Isaac...He is everywhere!

Here is the front of my parents house. Michael and I built and installed the railing for their Christmas present. On the upper left of the porch you will see my dads "flying pig" feeders. During the Great Bird Count this year I counted 16 birds hanging from one Nyger sock. That does not count all the ones waiting in the branches for a chance to get to the sock. They are actually good door bells. They all fly away as soon as anyone walks toward the door. My dad is never taken by surprise that someone is coming.

The storms have passed for now and the weather is nice and springy. All of my daffodils are in full bloom. My crazy aprium has already set penny sized fruit. I don't know how they got pollinated in the storms we had, but they managed.

Everything is pretty much in bloom or about to burst. This is one of may favorite things to watch. All the trees come back to life.

The bees are going crazy. I thought that I had lost them, until I learned that they raised a new queen. Bees are some of the most amazing creatures. I am very much enjoying raising them. My dad has been researching different methods of beekeeping. I will keep you posted on all the cool things I learn.
Umm...I hate to admit it, but Taylor planted 9 more fruit trees for us today. I think I miss counted last time I posted because when I counted today that put me up to 49 fruit and nut trees. WOW. I think Michael is going to put a moratorium on planting any more fruit trees. I added some Asian Pears and Avocados.(Actually I was replacing the Avocados trees that Michael's dog ATE! Good thing Home Depot does not ask any questions with their one year guarantee.

Michael had a lull at work so we surprised the kids and took them to the snow on Saturday.

Blogger is having troubles tonight and won't let let me post any more picture and keeps bumping me off. So this is a good as it gets for now.
