Spring Break
The 1st weekend of Spring Break we spent watching general conference. We tried something new this year. BINGO. I found a website to print custom cards (thank you google!). The kids and I guessed what words we thought we might hear during the conference. Then I stocked a prize box, so that I could reward every two BINGOs with a pick a prize at the end of the session. It was a hit and the kids listened really well. (We tried doing one BINGO per prize at stake conference in January and the kids wiped out the all the prize box prizes! )
The other thing I did recently while surfing the internet was come across an article about being frugal. That article got me caught up in reading blogs and thinking about posting on my own blog more often, but I realized that these people blog almost everyday. The topics are usually about the same topic, food storage, coupons, deals, finances, etc. I even found a lady that makes things just from the salvage edge of fabric (you know the little strip that has the brand of the fabric and the color dots on it.) She posts almost daily! I decided I am not an expert on anything that I could blog about every single day, let alone once a week. It is fun gleaning from all their posts just the same.

I was so excited that spring break finally arrived. I had so much to do. So here is a list of things I did on spring break....

Monday I finished the remainder of the square foot garden. I planted a little and finished the watering system. I moved a pipe and installed a new faucet next to Michael's garden shed.

Tuesday I repaired the watering system that Star ate last year....It took me a whole day...I did not have kind feelings toward our dog during this repair. I also had to run to town and get some supplies. While there I brought back the chicks that Andrew had been begging me for. So now we have 5 chicks sitting in a box by the front door.

Wednesday I planted the tomatoes for canning....Then it started to rain...On my spring break!

So I abandoned planting and came inside and finished up a Christmas quilt that I had partially made. It had been set up in the front room for a month or so, we were all sick of the mess. It felt good to have the quilt top done. It is not put together or quilted, but the top is one piece. I really have no idea what I am going to do with it. I was asked to teach a quilting class and was trying out ideas. I am still not sure how I am going to teach a quilting class, but I am sure I will come up with something.

Thursday it was still raining, so I made a new bread recipe. It was unlike anything I had made before. http://everydayfoodstorage.net/2009/03/11/making-homemade-bread-the-food-storage-recipe-challenge/food-storage-recipes. The videos were really helpful. It got rave reviews from the kids.

Friday and Saturday the kids and I worked outside. I finally got to finishing planting the tomatoes. We checked the watering system on the trees and the kids took turns loading up the tractor with mulch and spreading it.

When all was said and done I was disappointed that I did not get all the watering systems done. I only made it about half way around the property.

Easter was a new experience for the kids. They decided that because Easter was a fast Sunday and that they would not be able to eat the candy until after dinner on Sunday so they would do the Easter Egg hunt on Saturday, so we did. Sunday morning came, everyone got ready for church and we took off. The kids asked where their Easter baskets were that the Easter Bunny usually leaves. I had to explain to them that because they did not do their chores on Saturday I did not have time to get any Easter baskets ready, because I was too busy doing their chores after they went to bed. They tried to negotiate how they could still get baskets. I told them just to make sure they had them done before bed next year. Sometimes it is just not fun being the parent.

Here are the two pic I managed to get before we ran out the door for Church. We tried to get a group pic, but it did not happen.

If you look at the picture of the garden you can see that their is fabric "tents" over some of the boxes. The 1st pic is from under the "tent." The second pic is from a squash planted in a box without a tent. They were planted on the same day. The tents protect the plants from freezing, but allow in light and moisture. Don't try camping in these tents! As you can see, the tents make a difference!
