The 4 older kids are taking art classes. They have gone twice now. My hope is they will not be destined to a life of only being able to draw stick figures :-)
Robynn, Andrew and Taylor went to a party that had a dessert competition. It was so fun to watch them. They did it all themselves. Picked the recipe and baked it. Taylor made me laugh. He is the least experience in the kitchen. He needed 2 cups of peanut butter. He could not figure out how to get the whole one cup measure into the peanut jar to scoop it out. So he used a half cup measuring cup to scoop it out. It did not even occur to him to spoon the peanut butter into the measuring cup;-) Even with his inexperience Taylor got 1st place and Robynn got second!
Here is spring planting. Can't wait for some real dirt therapy.
At the end of summer last year the boys and I pulled out all the thornless varieties of blackberries that I have been growing for the past couple of years. They just did not taste good enough to keep. A couple of weeks ago I went and dug up some berry starts from a gentlemen we attend church with (Thanks Darrell). I had the two little ones me and had to dig fast. I was pretty rough with them, but the plants did not seem to mind. They appear to be happily putting out their leavest. This above picture is boysenberries (that I have be assured are the best.) Below are raspberries that really do grow here. I can not tell you how much money I have spent trying different varieties of raspberries. I have one loan survivor. The moral of the story is the two best things in life are friends and free.
On one of the sunnier days I tried my hand at more grafting. The guys on the Youtube video's make it look so easy. But let me assure you it is an art. So glad I still have all my fingers. That knife is sharp.
For any of you who really care about my gardening adventures...The tree that I am trying to propagate is an old white peach tree that was here when we moved in. It has the best peaches, but it is very old and I don't want to loose the flavor of this tree. I am putting it on some rootstock that has grown from an apricot tree that I have to chop down last year because of peach tree boars.
This is another type of grafting. I went out yesterday and it was blooming, but I took the blossom off so the it would not stress putting on fruit.
So what did I do with my younger ones while I was off playing.....
I put them on the dog house of course;-))

Love the dog house!
We planted some seeds the other day hoping soon to have some starts to put in our garden. I'm impressed with the grafting--way to go Shirley.
